A while back Rachel Boyd wrote about a video she has posted on teachertube. It’s called ‘Why Let Our Students Blog?’ and it addresses exactly what the title suggests. Now it doesn’t give lots of lengthy evidence into the benefits of blogging - it’s more an introduction probably designed to inspire and enthuse people about them - but it’s worth a watch and it has certainly given me some useful words to use as I think about why I want to get the children at my school blogging.

The video also, for me, brings up a whole load of questions about the use of teachertube! I suppose it will stick around But it makes me cringe slightly. In the same way that godtube made me cringe. If I ever get round to making any videos I’ll stick to youtube.

Hi and thank you for the link to our school blog. We started blogging properly about a year ago and it has been a roaring success! It needs a lot of thought, i.e. who is allowed to blog/edit blogs etc and some good commonsense ground rules. For our school, it has opened up an arena for our children’s work to be shared on a global scale which is highly motivational (for all of us). Anyway, good luck with the blog!

Thanks Phil. I am not sure if you will see this or not so I will probably post something similar over at your site…
Would you mind if I picked your brains a little bit with regards to the blog? I know you guys are hosting your own Wordpress install (or it looks that way!) which is great. Did you consider something such as edublogs? If so, what were the factors that made you decide to use your own install? I’m trying to decide whether to use the edublogs one I set up for school or install our own.
And - could I borrow/use your rules for blogging and writing good comments as inspiration while I am trying to write them for our school?
Thanks again for the comment.
Andy.
